Embracing Rest in a Fast-Paced World
...prioritize yourself, and practice daily rhythms that ground you..
First day of the new month, what a true breath of fresh air! Welcome to May! 🌸
We’ve really been on a roll these past few months. February and March both started on Saturdays, and now April and May have greeted us with public holidays. It’s honestly so exciting and well-deserved, too.
I hope you’re taking this time to actually rest.
I mean, resting your body, resting your mind.
Sometimes I wonder if it’s just me, but on days like this, especially public holidays, I find it hard to get my brain to stop buzzing with thoughts of tomorrow’s tasks. It’s like my mind just won’t take the day off.
But here’s what I’ve found that helps:
Either I start singing (yes, even if off-key 😅), or I write those thoughts down. Just get them out of my head and onto paper. It really helps me breathe deeper and come back to the present.
There comes a time when you realize: the show will go on.
With or without you, life keeps moving. So if you don’t make space for yourself now… well, like my mother would say; na one minute silence o.
One thing that’s helps is to create a few non-negotiables for yourself:
After 7 PM, I won’t engage with work unless it’s truly urgent.
By 10 PM, my phone goes away even if I’m not sleepy yet, it’s wind-down time.
By 6 AM, I’m up. And for the next 30 minutes, it’s just me, prayer, and quiet communion with God.
I call non-negotiables like these my daily rituals. They’ve done more than just help me cut down on excess or busyness, they remind my mind that I matter too. They pull my personal needs from the bottom shelf back into the light where they belong.
So I’m curious, what rituals have you picked up lately, and how are they serving you?
And is there a new one you feel ready to start this month?
As always, here are my heartfelt recommendations:
🎵 Song: Hallelujah by Johnny Drille & Simi – it’s simply timeless.
📚 Book: Iya Beji by Adesuwa O’man Nwokedi
🎬 Movie: Broken Hallelujah (on YouTube)
Sending you loads of love, warm hugs, and forehead kisses 💛
